Chadbourn Blazing update 4-07-2011
Chadbourn, N.C. — On September 21, 2010,
Daniel
Wayne Scott, a nineteen year old volunteer for the Klondyke - Chadbourn
Fire &
Rescue Department, with was charged with arson resulting in serious
injury
and conspiracy to commit arson.of Carolina Tire Store and warehouse.
.This Columbus County volunteer fire
fighter, his eighteen year old stepbrother, Michael Cody Clamp, and
Richard Blake Turner, age twenty, have also been charged in this
arson case. Arson is the crime of deliberately and maliciously setting
fire to structures or wildland areas.
Daniel
Wayne Scott, was standing and doing his part among the fire
fighters who fought the blazing inferno. These identified
arsonists
were held in Columbus
County Jail and under one and two million dollar bonds.A few burned
walls are still standing at the end of the block which appear
to be their only memorial.
The blazing flames lasted four days spreading toxins and black smoke
throughout the area. There was a terrible stench as thick black
smoke billowed from the tires. Many suffered with smoke inhalation. An
estimated 40,000 tires were burned. It was said that one hundred and
fifty fire fighters from thirty-six fire departments fought this fire
storm. We applaud their efforts serving our community. Why did this happen
and how will the court rule? We will all be listening and watching for
the facts that left Chadbourn burning.
