Jesse Vernon Pace, a convicted felon, has been charged with brutely murdering Betty Smith Pace, his seventy-five year old grandmother. Columbus County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a concerned family member's call reporting that Mrs. Pace had not been seen since the previous Sunday .
 Her car and cell phone  were also missing from the home. After further investigation, deputies determined that twenty nine-year-old, Jesse Vernon Pace, Mrs. Pace's grandson,  could be involved with her death. and that he had previousely  lived with his grandmother until late December 2010..

Deputies investigated and  found Betty Pace's body with her throat cut,  An autopsy, conducted at Chapel Hill, revealed that the cause of her death was a laceration to the front of her neck. 
It was belived Jesse Vernon Pace, could be involved with her death. With aide from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, Jesse was located Saturday along Highway 130 .  Deputies also found Betty's car


Investigators from both Columbus and Brunswick Counties, in consultation with the District Attorney's Office, executed  two search warrants on homes where Jesse is known to live.  Authorities recovered property belonging to Betty  Jesse Vernon Pace was arrested Saturday night for murder and is being held without bond.  He will make his first  appearance in court Monday.

We live in a time that it is so important to watch out for one another, and to show the elderly and every one that we care for them. We are our brother's keeper extends beyond the church walls and into the neighborhood. Sadly, this life was taken but there comes a cry that we must watch and care. This
crime was from the heart of evil, Should any  murderer as this ever be released into any community? Watch our courts and the handling of this brutal senseless murder.
